EU: Iran missiles 'stoking concern'

The European Union says Iran's missile capabilities have further increased international disquiet over Tehran's uranium enrichment.

In a Friday statement, EU members called on Tehran to address the escalating concern over its nuclear activities after the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) successfully launched a number of advanced missiles.

"These missile tests can only compound the worries of the international community. The European Union expresses its concern after Iran tested short-range and intermediate-range missiles on the 9th and again on the 10th of July," said the EU statement.

"The EU calls on Iran to respond to the demands of the entire international community as expressed in UN Security Council resolutions and achieve a negotiated solution to the nuclear issue," it added. Iran successfully tested advanced shore-to-sea, surface-to-surface and sea-to-air missiles in the military maneuver code-named Great Prophet III. The Islamic Republic has emphasized that its missile capabilities would only be used to safeguard Iran's security and territorial integrity. Source
