Iran: G8 members 'on road to precipice'

In a letter to the Japanese newspaper Yomiuri Shimbun, President Ahmadinejad criticized the leaders of the G8 over their domination-seeking policies, saying the world has entered a phase in its history wherein it is not and cannot be ruled by a single superpower.

"They (members of the Group of Eight) may imagine they can solve their own problems without respecting others and their interests. But this attitude will only accelerate them along the road to a precipice," he said in the letter on Tuesday. Referring to a package of incentives prepared by the G5+1, which requires Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program, President Ahmadinejad said the country would not accept any 'illegitimate demand' in this connection.

Iran has repeatedly asserted that as a signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) it is entitled to enrich uranium and will not consider any proposal that aims to pressure the country into abandoning its legitimate right to peaceful nuclear technology. The Iranian president went on to urge the so-called superpowers to change their policies in an attempt to secure the future of the entire world. Press TV
