Anti-war protest planned for Bush visit to London

So bloody typical...! I hope it rains...!

Peace campaigners are planning to hold an anti-war rally during next week's visit to the UK by US President George W Bush.

Stop the War Coalition (STWC) described Bush as a "war criminal" and said the protest will be held outside the British parliament on June 15. The demonstration is "against his war policies, and against the British government's continuing support for his wars," said STWC, the UK's largest peace network group. The US president is planning what is seen as his farewell European tour before he leaves office in January, attending first the annual EU-US summit in Slovenia, before traveling to Germany, Italy, the Vatican, France, Britain, and Northern Ireland. Calling for the withdrawal of US troops from Iraq, Afghanistan and Somalia and to end its threats against Iran, STWC said that Bush was "not welcome here." In his last visit to London in November 2003, police undertook a massive security operation costing Pnds 4 million (Dlrs 8m) to deal with the estimated 100,000 anti-war protesters. --IRNA
