Israel: Nationwide Strike Set for Next Week

June 23, 2008

If treasury officials do not back down from the planned tax reform plan, next week, the Histadrut National Labor Federation will launch a public sector strike.
The industrial action will shut down almost all public services, with the closure of ports, airports, schools and universities, the stock exchange and government offices. National parks and public cultural sites will also close their doors.
The Histadrut, the country's main labour federation, is calling for the industrial action since Finance Minister Roni Bar-On plans to make up the lost revenue by taxing workers’ savings plans. (Link)
