Georgia wants to join NATO and EU

Georgian President, Mikhail Saakashvili, appealed to western countries to accelerate the country's integration into NATO and the EU.

"Georgia is appealing to international leaders with the request for accelerated integration into the NATO and the EU. We will continue our struggle for the development and the unification of Georgia. Our country will not be alone in this quest, and next to us will be all the progressive world community" - quotes RIA Novosti.

"This is the first attempt in Europe since Nazi Germany and Stalin to annex the territory of another country" - Saakashvili said.

Saakashvili added also that Russia's recognition of the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia is "illegal". (Source)
